The International Evangelism Centre - Sakila, Tanzania is a unique work of God's grace in the heart of East Africa.  Each year the Centre trains and sends approximately 200 pastors, teachers and evangelists into the seven nations of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Congo, and Mozambique.  To date, over 900 churches have been planted in these countries by graduates of the Centre.

What is especially unique to the Centre is that it was not the vision of a Western church or denomination, but the vision of a poor African farmer in a small village in Northern Tanzania.  Bishop Eliudi Issangya received his call into the ministry in the early 1970's.  He sold his farm, graduated from Bible training, and began trusting God to establish an African Training Centre.

 SCHOOL HISTORY

In 1983, the door opened to the Centre with twenty students.  Today, several thousand students have graduated from the intensive training.  In 1995, after years of praying and planning, students of the Centre planted a church on the island of Zanzibar.

The International Evangelism Centre is a tuition-free school sponsored by International Evangelism Outreach, which also provides spiritual and financial accountability for the Centre.  The school is supported by gifts of love from Christian brothers and sisters from across the United States and Canada.

FACILITIES AND EXPANSION

The Centre, which began with four small buildings and one small acre of land, has grown by the grace of God to a 14-acre campus with a 4,000 capacity seminar hall.  The Centre also has a 100-acre farm to help feed students and staff.  (In addition to their academic schedule, students also work at the farm and at the campus.)  In 1995 and 2002, wells were drilled for the farm and school.  The water is clean and pure, with a production rate of 60 gallons per minute.

In 1990, a medical clinic was established in Tanzania through visiting doctors and nurses from the United States.  2004 was a miracle year as we broke ground for a new 250 bed hospital, "New Hope International Hospital."  We initially started work with voluntary help last year, but have now hired a Tanzanian contractor and engineer.  To resume construction, we need $600,000.00 for the contractor to complete phase one, the super structure.

Early in 1994, Crower Trade School was established.  This was a decision IEO made in order to help the many young people who were finishing primary schools, but didn't have the means to go on to high school.  The trade schools have been a great way for them to gain vocational skills that they can use to earn a living and provide for their families.  As a testimony to the success of this program, we now employ some of the graduates for our own projects at the bible school in Sakila.  Praise the Lord!

In 1994, the Centre began a new phase in its vision by opening a second school in the nation of the Democratic Republic of Congo.  So far,, that school has graduated eight sessions, even through the interruptions of ethnic wars.  The school continues to operate under intense spiritual and physical strain, so we ask that you would please pray for their safety and also that we are able to assist them more in the way of finances.  Also, in 1993, we started a third evangelism school in the nation of Rwanda.  They are doing well, but again, they continue to operate under a very difficult environment.  Please pray with us that the Lord will increase the general giving to the ministry so that we can assist our brothers and sisters in the nations of Congo and Rwanda.

In 1998 a vision was born for a new preschool, and in 2002 that vision grew into a full primary school.  Shortly thereafter, a sponsorship program was established.  Children from four villages are getting a Christian education at Sluys/Anderson Primary School.  Built on six acres which the Lord provided miraculously, the school has a total of 220 students and we are adding a new grade of over 60 students each year.

Through a remarkable group of men and women of God from Gillette, Wyoming, a donation of a modern well drilling rig, we now have an ongoing program of drilling wells, not just for the Centre, but for the surrounding villages as well.  So far, over 16 wells have been drilled and thousands of people are getting clean drinking water as a result of this wonderful gift.  Since we do not have trained technicians at the Centre, each year a team of experts travels from Gillette to Sakila to assist in drilling new wells in different parts of Northern Tanzania.  Of utmost importance to this project is money we we can purchase more pumps and pipe in order to drill more wells for remote villages.

In 2004 a large church was established in the city of Arusha, population 700,000.  Arusha International Church seats 1,000 people and is reach many city dwellers through crusades and street evangelism.

HOW YOU CAN BE A PART

Eliudi & Helen Issangya with Shirley & Jim BedsoleThe basic financial need to operate the training center alone is great.  This includes room and board and curriculum for all the students plus salaries for the teaching and support staff.  In addition, the Centre conducts an annual Church Leadership Seminar attended by over 4,000 church leaders from East Africa.  The cost of this week-long seminar is approximately $6,000.  When funds are available, the Centre also sends students out on evangelistic outreaches.

The Centre tries to help graduates in church planting by providing both spiritual oversight and financial assistance when possible.

Of utmost importance to the Centre is faithful prayer and financial supporters.  This work is not underwritten by any grant or foundation or by any denomination.  Rather, it is supported solely by the donations of faithful Christians who believe in the great commission and have a heart for this work.

All we ask is that you would take the time to prayerfully consider being a partner in this revival in East Africa.  Both individuals and churches are to make their checks payable to International Evangelism Outreach (I.E.O.).  All gifts are tax deductible and you will receive a year-end receipt of your contributions.  All funds go to the ongoing work of the Centre.
